self-worth

These days, it is easy to feel down about ourselves.

Ads tell us to buy things if we want to be accepted and liked. Society measures our value based on our profession and affluence. Social media constantly reminds us of our worth based on how many followers we have or how many likes we get.

No matter what we've achieved, there is always someone who is prettier, more successful, or has a more glamorous life.

To feel better about ourselves, we stay busy and distracted but unfortunately, the feelings are still there eating away at our self-esteem.

How can we feel good about ourselves in the current culture when we are bombarded with these unrealistic expectations?

The first step is to distinguish between self-esteem and self-worth.

Self-esteem is how you measure the material things in your life – your appearance, profession, where you live, how many friends you have, how much attention you get, etc.

Self-worth is how you feel about yourself. It's not connected to material things.

Achieving more goals or accumulating more material possessions does not improve your self-worth.

The best way to feel good about yourself is to get connected spiritually. Your self-worth improves when you're at one with the Universe. You feel peaceful, happy and valued.

Your soul is your connection to universal energy - it will always guide you in the right direction if you listen to it.

Acts of kindness and giving back are wonderful ways to do this. When you give from the heart with no expectation of something in return, your energy moves to a higher vibration and you feel good.

As a bonus, your kindness will improve the self-worth of the people you interact with!

SELF WORTH MEDITATION

Set aside a quiet time for yourself.

Think of a moment when you did something kind for someone - a time when you acted compassionately on instinct and not because you wanted something in return.

It doesn't have to be a big gesture, maybe you smiled at someone who was having a bad day or told the person bagging your groceries that you appreciated them.

If you can't think of an example, visualize something that you would like to do. Maybe you see someone in your daily life who appears to be struggling. Think of something kind you could do for them the next time you see them.

Imagine opening yourself up and saying something from the heart. Feeling "seen" can really help someone who is hurting.

Focus on how you feel when you are being selfless and kind - when you are compassionate and loving. Your worth is limitless when you bring love into the world.

By regularly validating your self-worth you will always remember what a special and divine part of the Universe you are.

If you need additional help connecting to your own self-worth, I'm offering a great reading this month.
